Review: 2/10 rating

Plot Summary: When Albert Stockwell came home from work one day he found a note from his wife of 15 years, Nancy, saying she had gone to see friends. It was a lie.

After waiting several days Albert realizes that his wife is missing. Nancy had met her salvation on the Internet in the form of Louis Farley. Louis's life, like Nancy's, had become a twisted quest for redemption via smutty chat rooms and alternative websites. Both wounded and alone Nancy and Louis take comfort in one another thru email, pictures and promises.

Now Albert is forced to confront Louis. He hears how Louis and Nancy found one another on-line, started having an affair on-line and how they ended it... together.

Albert discovers that in the last days of his wife's sad lonely life, Nancy had decided to go to a different place, one of liberation and fulfillment, a location where pain becomes pleasure and where the end is the beginning.

In the end Louis knows that he is getting at least life-in-prison, that his course is set, and that within this fate he is free. Nancy too knows that the only freedom she will have will come from this same ultimate liberation, while Albert must stay behind and salvage what is left.

Alain Chabat (born November 24, 1958 in Oran, Algeria) is a French Jewish[1] actor and director who appeared in La Cité de la peur, Gazon maudit, The Taste of Others and The Science of Sleep. His career took off in 1987 when he founded the comedy group Les Nuls with Bruno Carette, Chantal Lauby and Dominique Farrugia. Les Nuls' first outing on French TV (on the paying channel Canal Plus) was a Sci-Fi spoof entitled Objectif Nul, which shares striking similarities with the British TV Series Red Dwarf, although both shows were released at roughly the same time and it is unlikely one influenced the other.

Either as a member of Les Nuls (in La Cité de la Peur) or in his own solo efforts as a director (Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, in which he also acted), Chabat is one of the scarce French comedians who has managed to successfully emulate the heavily referential, pop-culture-based writing style of the Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker trio and adapt it to the tastes of the French audience.

Chabat also voiced the title character in the French dubs of all three Shrek films, replacing Mike Myers.

He won the César Award for Best Debut in 1998 for Didier.

He will be playing Napoleon in the film "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian".

Jerichow

Release Date: May 15, 2009 (limited)

Studio: Cinema Guild

Director: Christian Petzold

Screenwriter: Christian Petzold

Starring: Nina Hoss, Brenno Fürmann, Hilmi Sozer

Genre: Documentary

Plot Summary: "Jerichow" was inspired by a news story Christian Petzold read while filming "Yella" in the former East Germany. Jerichow, a small town in northeastern Germany, an impoverished region where few jobs are to be had, an area of crisscrossing highways, deep forests, and cliffs that fall sharply into the sea, is the setting for an unfolding drama of three people who find themselves at a fortuitous crossroads.

Following his mother's death, Thomas (Brenno Fürmann), a former soldier who has been dishonorably discharged from the army, returns to his hometown. He has inherited his mother's house and plans to renovate it and look for a job. One night, Thomas meets Ali (Hilmi Sözer), a Turkish immigrant who owns a chain of snack bars in the area. Always suspicious of the people who work for him, Ali takes an unusual liking to Thomas. He trusts him and offers him a job as his driver and assistant.

Laura (Nina Hoss) is Ali's restless, beautiful wife. Thomas sees her whenever he drives his delivery truck to Ali's brick-fronted villa deep in the woods. She treats Thomas coolly, almost disdainfully. He's the driver her husband has chosen to befriend. And her husband is merely the man she kisses goodbye in the morning – a man who becomes frantic when he can't reach her on her cell phone.

Thomas notices Laura and Ali's strained relationship. He watches them perform everyday rituals, like any married couple, but something doesn't seem right. One day, the three of them head to the beach. Thomas sits next to Laura, while Ali dances, drunken and absentmindedly, to the notes of a Turkish tune, unknowingly setting in motion a series of events that will change the course of their lives.

Welcome to the world of "The Brothers Bloom," where deception is an art and nothing is as it seems. The brothers have perfected the art of swindling fortunes through years of fraternal teamwork. Now they've decided to take on one last spectacular job—luring a beautiful and eccentric heiress into an elaborate plot that takes them around the world.

For as long as they can remember, the Brothers Bloom have had only each other to depend on. Eager to retire, Bloom agrees to take part in one last grand scam. He insinuates himself into the life of Penelope (Rachel Wiesz), a bored, single New Jersey heiress. When a genuine romance begins to blossom between them, he is reluctant to exploit her naiveté, but Penelope has already taken the bait: She impulsively joins Bloom, Stephen and their "associate," a sexy Japanese explosives expert named Bang Bang (Rinko Kikuchi), on an ocean liner to Greece. Penelope is convinced she's happened upon the adventure of a lifetime and offers to bankroll a million dollar deal. As the quartet makes their way from Athens to Prague to Mexico to St. Petersburg, Penelope quickly becomes addicted to the illicit thrills. O'Horten

Release Date: May 14, 2009 (limited)

Studio: Sony Pictures Classics

Director: Bent Hamer

Screenwriter: Bent Hamer

Starring: Baard Owe, Espen Skjonberg, Ghita Norby, Henny Moan, Bjorn Floberg, Kai Remlow, Per Jansen, Bjarte Hjelmeland

Genre: Comedy, Drama

MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for brief nudity)

Official Website: SonyClassics.com/OHorten

Plot Summary: O' Horten has been described as a movie without a strong plot or a clear chronology.[2][3] The main character, Odd Horten, is an overly cautious 67-year-old man, about to retire after forty years as a train driver on Bergensbanen (the route between Oslo and Bergen). As the movie begins, we see him get up in the morning and go through a meticulous daily routine, as he prepares for his penultimate day of work. Later that evening, his colleagues throw him a farewell-party, but Odd – a timid man – is uncomfortable with the attention. After the party he ends up getting locked out of a friend's apartment. He climbs up a scaffold, and ends up in a young boy's room. The boy asks him to stay and wait for him to fall asleep, Odd falls asleep against the bedpost, and sleeps in the next morning. For the first time in his career, he then arrives too late for work, and the train has to leave without him. He is now left on the platform without any fixed points in his life, with nothing but a life of emptiness stretching out before him.

A number of scenes then follow whose exact sequence is unclear. Odd goes to visit his mother at the retirement home, something that makes him only more unhappy. His mother is senile and spends her days staring emptily out the window, and the visit reminds him of his own impending old age. He goes to the local swimming pool, but forgets his shoes as he is leaving. Instead he finds a pair of red high-heeled boots, and walks away in these. At the shop where he normally buys his tobacco, his friend Mrs Thogersen tells him that the owner has passed away. By chance he then runs into the coeval, but far more spontaneous Dr. Sissener, who has fallen asleep on the pavement, in the snow. The two spend the evening in conversation over a few drinks at Dr. Sissener's house, and Odd is led to certain realisations about his own life. It emerges that his mother – a free-spirited woman – was a ski jumper, but Odd himself never had the courage to try the sport. He now feels as if he has let her down, by never having the courage to seize the day and try new things.

In the early morning Dr. Sissener suggests the two go driving blind-folded. The stunt goes surprisingly well, but as Dr. Sissener pulls over the car, he dies. Odd is now left with responsibility for the doctor's dog, and with an urgency to live life to the fullest. As the movie ends he makes his way up to Holmenkollen ski jump, where he sees a vision of his mother a young girl. He makes a decision to try what he always wanted to do, and as the movie ends he is seen setting off from the top of the ski jump.
